This past spring/summer I worked with a company as a "Director of Community and Talent Acquisitions." Fancy! It was to help get experts into different web sites and build out community on the web. Working with the company's content team, we rocked out. As a reward the VP offered to take us to the movies. Uh, no. That is no fun and fun was what we needed. So I offered bowling - what could be more fun? Just watch and you tell me: Yes - those are wrist sweat bands! My team had them and I swear, they gave us magic powers. Video taken by Pixie and myself - apologies for the sideways shots we had no idea. Editing by me and fun had by all. PS: Foxy makes an appearance - she's everywhere!...

I was working with a company this past spring, creating a "Director of Community & Talent Acquisitions" role, building out a media product and working my ass off. But hard work always has to be balanced by fun or what's the point? And why work with people if you don't really connect and laugh with them? So one day a trip to the toy store was taken so that an attack on the financial guys could be sprung. The lead? Miss Foxy With Whip herself - a wonderful girl who I gave the (much deserved) nickname to. The only thing is, we weren't prepared to be attacked back. Music editing by me, giggles by me but fun had by all....

One of the best blogs I've read in a really, really long time. Her take on L.A. is especially comforting:You don't so much live in Los Angeles as cohabitate. And you fight sometimes, and then you make up, and sometimes you really REALLY want to leave each other. Or cheat on each other. Then you cry in your vodka martini and say, Baby, I'll never leave you. It's very codependant....

One of my favourite artists, Katherine Dunn, has launched a new blog. Some day I'm going to own some of her work if I can ever decide on which one (though I confess to a fondness for this). Also, I thought this entry was one of the sweetest, most inspiring, most beautifully photographed things I've read in a long time. And Jen wrote a really great post about "putting your money where your mouth is" which reminded me of a post I recently made about much the same thing....

My friend, Martine has released yet another fabulous album that I've been grooving to over the last few months. One song, Rather Be has become my favourite because of it's simplicity, truth, and catchy little tune. In a world of hype and mixes, this is a welcome, welcome change. (Though, really, I'm also boogeying my ass of to the Black Eyed Peas latest. How can one not love lovely lady lumps?)...

I'm in-love with Sara's leaf shadows and apparently I'm not the only one who likes what she does. Three of her photos are on display at Logan airport as part of the "Boston 375 Views" exhibit that runs through December. Her photos are of three different statues in Boston locations, specifically the Public Library, Boston Common and on Newbury Street. So if your travels happen to take you through Logan in the next two months keep an eye out for the exhibit on the walkway between the B and C terminals....

A useful site for those who ever want to know if they felt an earthquake or not. The flat shook quite a bit and, after browsing the site, discovered that a 3.0 happened just 2 miles away....

After a busy day of hosting a garage sale yesterday and packing up this morning, we decided on a whim to dress up, go downtown, share a parfait and mocha and see the movie, Finding Neverland. It did wonders for our souls on so many levels, I couldn't even begin to tell you how. Here's what the Director has to say: "My favorite part [of making the film] was being able to do something that I believe was magical and stimulated my imagination," Forster said. "And I hope I conveyed that in the film. That it will stimulate people's imagination, that they will write things or do things or believe in things that they didn't believe in before." So, if you find yourself in need of a little magic, a little comfort, or a little time to remember what it's like to see the world in a different way, I encourage you to go. And let it change you a little....

I've been moving forward with a new dream - production - and although it's at times overwhelming, confusing and a wee bit scary, it's also terribly magical, exciting and pure joy. As I realised with writing, making a dream real involves a million tiny steps that involve stepping past fear, heartbreaks and more frustrations than one can ever imagine. No one is ever handed what they want on a platform - one has to work a little and struggle a little to enjoy it all a lot. Today, two friends of mine gave me a little encouragement that doing what you want can be done by sharing the fruition of struggling through dreams. The ever so talented and amazing singer/songwriter Summer Pierre has just released her new CD, Far From Here (which you can buy through her ). This girl amazes me because she's the real deal. Her talent, her insights, her abilities stun me as does her wonderful, funny, down-to-earth personality. She's been there when I needed and inspired me inbetween. She took time off from her music, underwent some personal and professional struggles and then came back to her true passion at full-force - something I can relate to. She taught me that despite setbacks, one can move ahead - you just have to want to. That crap will happen but if you stay true to what is in you, you can succeed. She's proof. So, congratulations to this brave girl for pursuing her dreams no matter what....

I just want to say, that Dreamhost (the company that hosts this site and 4 others of mine), rocks. I'm working on a site for a friend who is also using Dreamhost and they just make it easy to put in goodies (like mailing lists, feedback forms, statistics, web based mail). So, if you're in the need of some new, inexpensive hosting, that's where I'd send you. And if you need some chocolate and tea, I recommend Chocolove and Mighty Tea. Oh, and the fabulous Wonder Shower is amazing! I just picked up the least expensive one and I'm hooked. And I wasn't paid to say any of this; I just like to share good things....

Good things: The Hip Traveller launched today, a fabulous travel web site with an article from my portfolio in it. Also, Small Sprial Notebook's first Print Edition is now out. This is terribly exciting for me as it was the first magazine cover I've done (which I wrote about here). I believe in the cycle of support and not in the worry of competition. I believe if I want to continue to have a career in writing and in art, I must support it with either time, donations, work or purchases....

At 11am, we walked into the Four Seasons Henri V with our backpacks in tow and checked into a very large, cosy and terribly elegant suite. There were two things that surprised me with this room; the first was that within minutes of our arrival a maid in full uniform (including hat!) knocked on our door to ask if we needed help unpacking our clothes and laying them in the room (a separate closet). I had to keep from smiling as I said no, I think we could manage. The second surprise was when I walked deeper into our suite, I noticed a small table by the window in which there was a bottle of champagne chilling and two delicious looking pastry sweets, as well as very fine china and silverware. If you're going to celebrate a 30th birthday, this is the way to go. The champagne was popped open and the desserts eaten and already I felt wonderful - and it wasn't even noon. We decided to wander about Paris. As it was my birthday and I was still recovering from being quite ill the day before, all I wanted to do was hop from cafe to cafe, which we did. It was a rather lazy afternoon and around supper we strolled back to the hotel where I headed down to the guest-only spa. A rather stout madame massaged any and all cares away and afterwards I sat curled like a baby in the quiet room; a bed with...

I often think myself rich because of the little luxuries I indulge myself in. Things such as putting my oversized terry robe in the dryer in the morning and then wearing it all warm as soon as it comes out. Making a fort in the lounge area, having the window slightly cracked and listening to the rain pelt against the roof. Watching the woodpecker, chickadee and flinches eat on my balcony. Walking for an hour on a sunny day. Carefully arranging three bouquets of tulips in a little vase he bought me (and also the first gift he gave me) six years ago. Browsing through new books. Hot chocolate at midnight. Reading magazines in bed under a fluffy duvet. Painting for an hour in the afternoon, just because. A new pen and journal. Seeing Robins and feeling hopeful about Spring. Buying a fabulous little pin for my jacket. Eating a pain au chocolate whilst window shopping. Afternoon naps. Taking a late night bath in a tub thats filled with wonderful bath products. A pale yellow mini skirt from my favourite store. Writing a travel newsletter at dawn. A date at the caf which involves a caf au lait and pie. These things, while simple, give me so much satisfaction and cost little and better yet, are always easy to do. And while doing them, I always think to myself, this is the good life....

It was on a Christmas day that I came up with my plan; I was no longer going to buy gifts that people didn't need just for the sake of it. I would no longer shop in malls, buy trinkets or gadgets and wrap something up for the sake of holiday. Instead, I decided that I would give the gift of time and since that Christmas, that's exactly what I've done. My flirty hair friend's birthday is just two days before mine, and I told her for her birthday she would get the gift of time from me, and that's what I wanted in return from her. This lead us to spending taking a day trip into Vancouver, British Columbia where we had massages at a swank spa, followed by afternoon tea. We spent the day dishing, relaxing and enjoying each others company; it was the best birthday gift ever. With mother's day approaching, I told my mum that I would give her the gift of time. She said she wanted to visit with me and spend time together. This means we'll have a weekend of catching up, hitting nurseries, playing in IKEA and sitting in far too many cafes. I mentioned this idea to my father, whose birthday is shortly and he thought it fantastic. I offered him the gift of time as well and that anything he wanted to do together, we'd do. Without hesitation, he replied, "Horsefly!" which is this small, not on the map hick town...

There are some days, like today, when I feel the need for theme music while I walk; the Be Good Tanyas fit the bill and I plopped the CD into my discman. I have a love/hate relationship with my discman. It came from Chris who picked it up many many years ago at a flea market for $5. The battery cover is missing, the CD cover doesn't close properly, and the headphones are $3 little plastic things that came from a grocer. Those things don't bother me so much as not having anti-skip. Because one of my ankles doesn't bend, I walk slightly less than smooth, creating bumps that goes straight to the discman. It skips, misses parts and sometimes takes ten minutes to play a four minute tune. But yet, I can't get myself to buy a new discman because I have mastered a special way of holding this one - two hands on either end in front of my body, slightly tiltled - that seems to keep the music playing in one piece. It's this slightly awkward act that leaves me feeling like Anne Shirley with her carpet bag and is reason why I keep using it even though for thirty dollars I could upgrade. This discman is uniquely mine for I'm the only one who can get it to play. And as trite as that sounds, it's actually a really nice reason to keep it....

It's such a whorish thing to do, I know. There are people on the streets, biafrians asking for money on tv, and one too many stray cats. Yet I can't help but be completely, utterly, selfish and wish for a little Anthropologie, a few books, or a wee bit of beauty for my birthday on Sunday. Oh, and lets not forget the biggest ass piece of cake a person can find. The shame of it all. I am prepared for hell....
