Years ago, my mum gave handed over to me her Kodak Junior Six-16, a camera that was sold between 1935-37 for about $12.

In perfect condition, I was in such awe of this camera that I let it sit for years on my shelf or in a box; the thought of using it seemed ridiculous. Use such an old, amazing camera? To take photographs? The thought!

Yet today I pulled it out and began my search for Kodak 616 film so that I could use it. Having something just for the sake of sitting doesn't go well with me, everything has to have a use. Just looking at something to say I can look at it, what's the fun in that?

Today on set we were joined by a seven year old girl (who, incidentally, they asked me to stand in for which was amusing to me since i'm pretty sure i'm not turning anywhere near seven when my birthday hits next week) who had wide eyes and questioned everything with them. Although she hit her marks and smiled on queue, in between takes she asked about everything around to anyone who would listen.

Instead of hushing her, the crew indulged her; answering her questions, letting her look through cameras and explaining the process. I thought how lucky she was not because of the attention she received but because of the information. As an adult, if I did what she did, I would be seen as an annoyance and a bad-worker.

I wonder when we cross the line from rewarding curiosity to punishing it and I wonder how I can cross back.

I left this morning at 8AM and drove for an hour to set and just now got home at 4:17AM. That, my friends, is what happens when you work on a movie set. However, I'm not complaining as I'm so in-love with what I get to do there. Besides, the whole creative process just facsinates me and gives me so much eye/ear candy that long days don't seem that long at all.

In other news, the Another Girl at Play web site which I created last year was nominated for a web award at the SXSW festival in March. This is impressive to me because the site makes no money. I know very basic code and our compitition is NIKE. Who says fancy is better?
